I wrote a big post having a bitch about this sort of behaviour when it comes to science but thanks to blogger.com crashing it was deleted. Have a read of this article about what's happened with Joachim Boldt if you're interested.
Needless to say, the majority of scientists are objective and reliable when it comes to their research and science. However, there are always a few bad apples who for reasons like personal gain (he was receiving funding from a specific pharmaceutical company and only found results in their favour), commit scientific fraud. Science should always remain the pursuit of the truth, the facts and the real answers to problems we wish to answer. Fraudulent science pushes us further away from these goals, hindering the scientific progression of our world. So I say throw the book at people like Joachim Boldt, who was fired by his hospital, where he worked, and stripped of his professorship from his university.
